I paint to capture and convey the special qualities and moments of humanity. Intimacy, trust, community, family, friendships…
When I see people caring for and about one another, I’m compelled to paint. And to believe in the best nature of us all.

Sharing in community experiences provides precious opportunities to observe and listen to people, and to celebrate humanity, diversity and the energy of daily activities. New sights and experiences are exciting.

We can also find that we have more in common with people in new places than we might believe. Such universal shared experiences transcend culture, and can give us hope for a brighter future of respect and acceptance of one another. When I paint, I mean to convey this sense of optimism and humanity.

I have a passion for drawing and painting people, in all their beauty and complexity. Especially women who convey a sense of vitality, strength, and comfort in their own skin.
My figurative paintings reach people in meaningful ways as they connect my artwork with their own stories, experiences and imaginations. These personal connections reinforce why I paint.

Summertime at the beach has a special energy. The warmth and freedom of an open beach relaxes inhibition and invites an easy spirit among an active, happy community. For me and for many, the beach is also a sanctuary of peace and restoration. I draw on my memories and invent both past and present when I create my beach paintings.

My favorite feedback that I get from patrons who appreciate my artwork is the expression, “this has soul.”

My work is about human connection, identity and expression. When I paint a commissioned portrait, my goal is to capture more than just the likeness of my subject. When I’m smiling as I’m painting, I know I’m on track. My work is complete when I’ve shown understanding of their personality, energy and spirit.
